ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fire officials determined the cause of an apartment fire that displaced 11 residents, and they have not released further details about the incident.  WDBJ7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Project Imagine discussed a new sports-based workplace program that offers regular team sports—boosting employee health and teamwork among workers. The initiative will launch soon and aims to serve as a model for similar programs in the area.  WDBJ7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Dream Dance Studio celebrated National Dance Day in Blacksburg — marking the occasion with community activities that honored local dance talent.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New River Community College will offer a motorcycle safety course to teach riding skills—details on enrollment and schedule will be announced soon.  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that a ramp extension project at Interstate 81 exits 94 and 105 in Pulaski and Montgomery counties will begin Tuesday evening, September 23, closing the southbound entrance ramp at exit 94 for about two weeks. Road users will face a nightly right lane closure on I-81 south from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. starting Sunday, September 21 — with more closures expected as the project continues until summer 2026.  WDBJ7

HEALTH NEWS

  • YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge will highlight fall prevention during Falls Prevention Awareness Week, Sept. 22–26 and will offer free access to its facilities from Sept. 24–30. Wellness Director Betty Bridges says that older adults will be encouraged to practice simple exercises like sit-to-stands, step-ups + balance support to improve stability.  WSLS 10
  • A concussion awareness program will offer education to local parents and players on recognizing and preventing head injuries—planned by health officials to improve safety in sports. The program will provide clear guidance on managing concussion risks.  WDBJ7

  • Patrick Henry and William Fleming renew their rivalry today—Patrick Henry is 3 to 0 and leads the series while William Fleming has rallied with two wins and both teams ranked in the top five of the latest poll will soon compete with their top players.  WSLS 10
