EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ New River Community College will offer a motorcycle safety course to teach riding skills—details on enrollment and schedule will be announced soon. WDBJ7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that a ramp extension project at Interstate 81 exits 94 and 105 in Pulaski and Montgomery counties will begin Tuesday evening, September 23, closing the southbound entrance ramp at exit 94 for about two weeks. Road users will face a nightly right lane closure on I-81 south from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. starting Sunday, September 21 — with more closures expected as the project continues until summer 2026. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge will highlight fall prevention during Falls Prevention Awareness Week, Sept. 22–26 and will offer free access to its facilities from Sept. 24–30. Wellness Director Betty Bridges says that older adults will be encouraged to practice simple exercises like sit-to-stands, step-ups + balance support to improve stability. WSLS 10
- ➤ A concussion awareness program will offer education to local parents and players on recognizing and preventing head injuries—planned by health officials to improve safety in sports. The program will provide clear guidance on managing concussion risks. WDBJ7
