- ➤ New River Community Action received a $3,700 grant from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation on December 17 to help nourish neighbors facing hunger in the New River Valley. The funding will support nutrition education and improve access to healthy food for local residents. New River Valley News
- ➤ RAM House has begun offering services to reduce homelessness + hunger with programs that provide meals and shelter support. The initiative launched on Dec. 17 at 3:30 p.m. and aims to help local residents in Blacksburg. WDBJ7
- ➤ The YMCA at Virginia Tech celebrated a donation of $887.50 from the original University Club of VPI + SU to support Meals on Main, a program that provides free USDA-approved meals to children in Blacksburg and Christiansburg. WSLS 10
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Illuminights Winter Walk of Lights is hosting its final nights in Blacksburg, offering residents a last chance to enjoy festive holiday lights along the downtown route. The event will conclude soon — inviting families to experience the seasonal display before it ends. WDBJ7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University Libraries at Virginia Tech served thousands of grilled cheese sandwiches during Cheesy Nights (Fall 2025) to help Hokies push through finals. The event provided comfort to students during exam time. Virginia Tech News

- ➤ Virginia Tech received a $1.4 million federal grant from HRSA to train mental health professionals by offering $25,000 fellowships (four-year program) to seven graduate students in underserved Southwest Virginia. WSLS 10

- ➤ Local housing officials reported on Dec. 17 that thousands remain on the affordable housing waitlist due to high demand—officials will review project plans to address the shortage. WDBJ7
