- ➤ The Hill City Volleyball team organized a fundraiser on November 10th to support veterans—organizers said donations will boost local veteran programs. WDBJ7

CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new PBS documentary—Resolved to Live and Die—will air Sunday on Blue Ridge PBS as it shows how Southwest Virginia helped fight for freedom. Its first public screening is Tuesday night at the O. Winston Link Museum in Roanoke as part of the Virginia 250 celebration, honoring the region’s role in the Revolutionary War. Cardinal News

- ➤ Educators are urged to apply for the VAITC 2026 Teacher of the Year Award as the deadline nears+ the award will honor a teacher who has shown exceptional dedication in our schools. WDBJ7
- ➤ Virginia will bring back the presidential fitness test in schools by the 2026-2027 school year following Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s executive order on Election Day—students will be tested on running, sit-ups, pull-ups, flexibility, and speed. The Virginia Department of Education will set up a task force on January 1 to guide the rollout so that the program is fully in place by July. WSLS 10

- ➤ The planning commission met on Nov. 10 to discuss a possible addiction center that might offer treatment options for local residents—officials plan to decide on funding and location in upcoming meetings. WDBJ7
- ➤ Today we honor our veterans on Veterans Day by remembering local Medal of Honor heroes including Private Whitehead who received his award in 1877, Corporal Gillenwater who served during the Philippine Insurrection, Corporal Bausell who shielded his men in World War II, Sergeant Morris who fought in Vietnam, and Captain Fox who later worked at Virginia Tech. Their brave actions—recognized by the Medal of Honor—remind us of the lasting legacy of sacrifice in our community. New River Valley News
