COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents on Preston Ave said speeding cars disturb their neighborhood—local police said they will review the situation and may add extra patrols if complaints continue. Residents have reported the issue multiple times and are calling for effective measures.  WDBJ7

CULTURE NEWS

  • A benefit concert will mark the 40th anniversary of the flood of '85 in Blacksburg & raise funds for local restoration efforts. Officials said the event aims to honor history and boost recovery projects in the community.  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Southwest Virginia food banks are preparing for a surge in demand if SNAP funding runs out November 1 due to an ongoing government shutdown—over 176,000 residents may be affected. Feeding Southwest Virginia is seeking extra food sources and planning pop-up distribution centers while urging local officials to secure continued support.  WSLS 10

SPORTS NEWS

  • Week 8 football games wrapped up last week with matchups featuring teams from Radford, Christiansburg, and Blacksburg. The highlight was Staunton River vs. Lord Botetourt — chosen as Game of the Week for its standout plays.  WDBJ7
  • NFL veteran Logan Thomas and the VHSL finished a court session today where a judge denied a temporary restraining order for Thomas and his sons as the court examined eligibility issues for two stepsons at Brookville High. Court documents show that school principals hold the final call on player eligibility—Christina White approved the athletes until VHSL raised additional concerns that may lead to fines and forfeits if the players are ruled ineligible.  WSLS 10
