EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County supervisors and the school board meet today at 6:30 p.m. in the county government center in Christiansburg to begin the search for a new school superintendent while reviewing the school budget and planning a study on building conditions. The meeting follows former superintendent Bernard Braden Jr.'s resignation on Aug. 30 — acting superintendent Lois Graham was named on Sept. 2. Cardinal News

- ➤ Virginia Tech’s Board of Visitors will meet virtually Sept. 30 to discuss a proposed $47.1 million increase that would raise the athletic department’s budget to $190.1 million for 2026-27 and to $212.1 million for 2029-30—athletic director Whit Babcock noted that $13.5 million of the increase is planned to support Hokies football amid concerns over funding balance. The proposal uses increased student fees, institutional support, bridge funding, and philanthropy to help the team regain competitiveness in the ACC. Collegiate Times
