- ➤ Anthony Alton Albert Sr. died on Wednesday, September 17th at his Christiansburg home at age 78 while surrounded by family. A celebration of his life will be held at McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg on Tuesday, September 23rd from 6 to 8 p.m.—his legacy will live on among those who knew him. New River Valley News

- ➤ Savaria Parrish is a fourth-year geosciences major who studies how planets form and evolve—she uses research and public outreach to inspire kids about space. She hopes to work as a scientist at a museum, including the American Museum of Natural History, to share her passion for science. Virginia Tech News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Glenn Youngkin met online with over 1,500 DSS workers and agency leaders on Thursday to support SNAP FORWARD — a plan to fix the 11.5% error rate in SNAP benefits. The program builds on Executive Directive 13 and will use better training, new rules, and improved technology to help families get the right benefits. New River Valley News
