- ➤ The New River Valley Fairgrounds will host the 5th annual Sheep and Goat Festival on Sept 27—a free event organized by the New River Valley Sheep and Goat Association. Festival activities include hand shearing, goat milking demos, artisan booths, a starter flock auction and family fun with indoor options if it rains. New River Valley News
- ➤ On Thursday, during Hunger Action Month, Virginia Tech students, athletes and alumni gathered at Feeding Southwest Virginia's Salem warehouse—where the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber also attended—for the annual Hokie Way Service Day. WSLS 10

- ➤ The Wildlife Center hatched turtles on Sep. 18th as part of its conservation work to boost local wildlife numbers & will track the hatchlings’ progress in the coming weeks. WDBJ7

- ➤ Virginia Tech’s Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention is hosting a discussion on Southwest Virginia’s high incarceration rates—three panels will include local voices, advocates, service providers, and policymakers; the event begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Lyric Theatre. WSLS 10
