COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Over 1,000 Virginia Tech cadets and first responders climbed Lane Stadium steps yesterday to remember the sacrifices made on 9/11. The event—where local firefighters, EMS, and police carried extra weight to symbolize the burden of that tragic day—brought the community together in solemn tribute.  WDBJ7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Google's data center signed a water use deal yesterday to secure enough water for its operations—local officials said the agreement will support future expansion plans.  WDBJ7

CRIME NEWS

  • Virginia Tech students expressed shock after learning that Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at a Turning Point USA event in Utah on Wednesday and worried about the safety of his planned Prove Me Wrong debate at Virginia Tech on September 24th.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia Tech students in Blacksburg responded with grief to Kirk’s death—many gathered on campus to share memories and plan a memorial tribute.  WDBJ7

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced that Deep-brand frozen vegetables and fruit products are recalled for the risk of salmonella after several people fell ill and four were hospitalized. The recall was expanded to include additional lots made on the same equipment from December 18th, 2024—August 18th and sold nationwide, so consumers in Blacksburg should check their freezers and discard any recalled items.  WDBJ7
  • Local organizations honored addiction survivors during National Recovery Month—highlighting personal journeys and community strength—and provided speeches and support programs to promote ongoing recovery.  WDBJ7
