CRIME NEWS

  • A 20-year-old Virginia Tech student was charged with attempted murder—police say he stabbed a person off-campus in Blacksburg early Saturday morning.  The Roanoke Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine welcomed its largest class ever with 56 students in the Class of 2029 to help address a nationwide doctor shortage; the school will expand faculty, clinical sites, and training opportunities—focusing on rural communities.  WSLS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 9, RPD provided details on how its license plate reading cameras work & explained policies on data use to boost transparency. The department said the information is now available for public review.  WDBJ7

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, Blacksburg Relays started the cross country season with a 10k race as teams ran on a challenging course. Lola Olsen led the winning girls team—and Eastern Montgomery’s Prince Robinson ran the first leg while athletes like Nick Smith and Rivers Matthews cleared a water jump.  News Messenger
  • Senior Lamont Hurdle led the Bruins in their home opener as Blacksburg defeated James River 36-26 yesterday—quarterback Sam Szefc and Jaxon Keys made key plays to secure the win.  News Messenger
