EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech's recovery housing The Roost had a strong first year with seven students and now has grown to 11 this fall—assistant director Kaitlyn Carter said the program builds a supportive community that breaks down stigma. WDBJ7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Candidates for town council and mayor talked about the town's housing shortage that left many Virginia Tech students with few affordable homes—raising concerns over an eight‐story student housing project—and they called for clearer council communication. Cardinal News
- ➤ Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced that the Disaster Assistance Fund is accepting applications for $50 million to help Southwest Virginia residents and businesses recover from Hurricane Helene and February flooding damage; applicants should contact local governments for details.
