  • A candlelight vigil for Blake Sturm was held in Blacksburg last night—neighbors and community members gathered to honor his memory—and organizers reported the event brought local residents together.  WDBJ7
  • The Sunflower Festival 2025 Part 5 brings fresh celebrations to Blacksburg as organizers plan live music and local vendor exhibits later this week—encouraging families to enjoy community fun.  WDBJ7
  • Habitat for Humanity of the New River Valley will host a Day of Service and Remembrance on Thursday, September 11 at the Habitat ReStore — 1675 N Franklin St, Christiansburg — from 12:00 to 6:30 PM to honor 9/11 victims, first responders and veterans. Volunteers and students from Montgomery County Schools and Christiansburg Middle School will build 24 memorial picnic tables before community activities with food trucks and live music begin at 4:00 PM.  New River Valley News

  • An update on the Sunflower Festival 2025 announced new plans for local art and music events—organizers said family-friendly food vendors and entertainers will join soon. The festival is set to grow as more details are shared in the coming days.  WDBJ7

  • John Clair, the Blacksburg Police Chief, was named the 100th President of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Friday. He will lead the statewide group as it celebrates its centennial year + works to advance professional policing.  WSLS 10

  • Local businesses in Blacksburg are preparing for increased customer traffic as Virginia Tech football season continues—many plan to offer special promotions and longer hours to meet the demand from returning fans.  WDBJ7
