  • Virginia Tech researcher Charlie Klauer advises drivers to set up music, GPS, and texts before starting the car—she noted that high school drivers spent 20 percent of their trips glancing at their phones and that touch screens in newer cars add distraction risk.  WSLS 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Sandra Hong of Cleveland Clinic advises families to focus on fall cleaning—especially in kitchens, bathrooms, and basements to remove mold—and to dust, vacuum, wash bedding, and change air filters to ease indoor allergies. She also recommends using antihistamines or nasal sprays if symptoms like sneezing persist.  WSLS 10

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer wore Gamecocks black at the Hokies' season opener on Sunday — supporting his son, Shane, who now coaches South Carolina.  WDBJ7
  • Virginia Tech students in Blacksburg are excited as their Hokie football season returns despite the opener being on the road, and many fill local restaurants and bars to celebrate maroon-and-orange pride - fans say these game day traditions will support the team throughout the season.  WDBJ7
