  • Meaghan Davidson was named assistant vice president and dean of students at Virginia Tech while Meng Zhu was named head of the Marketing Department at Pamplin College of Business; lawyer Bruce C. Stockburger was recognized as a 2025 Go To Lawyer for taxation and 66 Spilman Thomas & Battle attorneys made the 2026 Best Lawyers list (some as Lawyers of the Year and some as Ones to Watch).  The Roanoke Times

  • Local police are seeking a man wanted for burglary and thefts from vehicles that occurred recently—investigators ask anyone with details to contact authorities.  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Town of Blacksburg announced that on Monday, September 1 its offices, transit center, community center and aquatic center will be closed and trash pickup in the SE Quadrant will be delayed until a makeup service on September 3—Christiansburg and Radford are also observing Labor Day with similar closures.  New River Valley News
  • Attorney General Jason Miyares joined a bipartisan coalition of 43 attorneys general that demanded Big Tech companies strengthen safeguards for minors from harmful chatbot interactions—warning companies they will be held accountable for exposing children to sexual, violent, and deceptive content.  New River Valley News

  • Virginia Tech Football is in Atlanta getting ready to face No. 13 South Carolina at 3 p.m. today inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium — head coach Brent Pry said the team practiced with crowd noise and added 30 newcomers to the roster after a 6-7 season.  WDBJ7
