- ➤ Virginia Tech Police warned students and community members today about scams that include fake football ticket sales—sextortion, bogus research positions and fraudulent emails—and advised victims to verify contacts using official channels. WDBJ7
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Employers and job seekers will meet at the second annual career expo hiring event at Berglund Center. Organizers say the event offers on-site interviews and career resources to help connect applicants with local companies. WDBJ7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ During Virginia Tech's New Cadet Week, new cadets completed an obstacle course and rappel tower training—designed to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills, a key part of their introduction before the fall semester began. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ The New River Valley Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities will open in fall 2026 at Radford University to serve 110 gifted high school students (from Giles, Montgomery, Floyd, Pulaski and Radford City) with a half-day program that awards up to 30 college credits. School and university officials say the program will prepare students for career-focused opportunities in the arts and humanities. WDBJ7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Office of Elections will hold in-person early voting from September 19 to October 31 at its Christiansburg office at 1546 North Franklin Street, with extra Saturday hours at the Blacksburg Community Center on October 25 and November 1—voters must register by October 24, submit absentee ballot requests by 5:00 p.m., and show acceptable ID at the polls.
