Fifteen Hokie Storm Chasers from the university studied severe weather in the Great Plains and saw tornadoes near Grygla, Minnesota—an event that boosted their practical learning—and they will continue tracking new storms as they head west.

They used real-time models and data from the Storm Prediction Center to safely observe the storms.

Virginia Tech will host its 17th annual Gobblerfest on Friday, Aug.
