  • Virginia Tech football players took time to host an arts—crafts session with children from Carilion as they prepared for the upcoming football season.  WSLS 10
  • Virginia Tech players partnered with Carilion Kids at a community event on Aug. 21 to offer local children a chance to engage in sports activities — an initiative expected to lead to more youth programs in the area.  WDBJ7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Data centers are large buildings that store our digital information and more are being built in Virginia as new projects are proposed in Botetourt, Appomattox and Mecklenburg counties — these expansions raise concerns about noise, traffic and energy use while offering new jobs and tax revenue. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Roanoke College poll of 702 likely voters shows that Representative Spanberger leads Lieutenant Governor Earle-Sears by 7 points (46% to 39%) in the race. Spanberger raised much more money than her opponent and the outcome may depend on independent voters in the coming weeks.  The Roanoke Times

  • Virginia Tech Football held its media day on Aug.20 where coaches+players outlined plans for the upcoming season. The team is preparing to enhance its play as they face new challenges in the season ahead.  WDBJ7
