COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Angels of Assisi will begin its move to a new facility at 725 Franklin Road SW on Friday, August 8 as it closes the adoption center for staff training until Sunday. The adoption center will reopen Monday from 1 to 5 p.m. and hold an adoptable pet event on Saturday, August 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — adoption fees will be waived, the community pet clinic will remain at 415 Campbell Ave, and officials expect the full move to complete within the next month. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A firefighter was injured while battling a fire at an industrial plant on August 6 and is receiving medical treatment, officials said. WDBJ7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech introduced a new robot that helps people with disabilities on campus. The technology was showcased on Aug.6 and is expected to support daily tasks for users. WDBJ7
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech football is working to improve after a 6-6 season—coach Brent Pry said every practice now focuses on situational plays and new coaching roles have been added. The team will test its new approach against South Carolina on August 31. WDBJ7
