EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Appomattox Middle School began implementing new security measures yesterday to boost student safety. School officials said the upgrades—adding cameras and controlled entry points—will be completed in the coming weeks. WDBJ7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Blacksburg lowered the speed limit on Prices Fork Road between North Main Street and Old Glade Road from 35 mph to 25 mph on August 1 to improve street safety—updated orange-flag signage now marks the new limits in Project Area Two. New River Valley News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Southwest Virginia native Billy Wagner was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, finishing his MLB career with seven all-star selections and 422 saves — his ceremony honored his local roots by displaying his high school and college pins. The weekend following his induction, the Atlanta Braves will face the Cincinnati Reds in an MLB game at Bristol Motor Speedway that could break attendance records. New River Valley News
