EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Patrick Henry High School marching band members have been practicing in the summer heat to get ready for their season. The students hold drills early and rehearse in the afternoon while taking water breaks—using popsicles as rewards—to stay cool before their first performance in August. WSLS 10
- ➤ Virginia Tech announced it will use new artificial intelligence to review undergraduate applications and speed up the admission process. Officials said the system is set to be integrated soon — it is designed to evaluate applications more efficiently. WDBJ7
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded Virginia Tech $419,080 on Monday, July 28 to support research for new osteosarcoma treatments—funding provided through the HHS Exploratory/Developmental Grants program that follows a separate $414,482 award for cancer research.
