- ➤ The Bike4Alz team of 11 riders from WKU will arrive in Blacksburg on Saturday, July 19—landing at the Virginia Tech Drillfield between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m.—and join a group dinner at PK’s Restaurant at 6:00 p.m. as part of their 70-day coast-to-coast ride supporting Alzheimer’s research that will end in Virginia Beach. - ➤ Jadyn Yost said she hopes state and federal judges on July 22 will see beyond her husband's mugshot as he faces felony assault charges from a July 9 incident in Blacksburg—he was arrested after allegedly threatening hospital staff and is now in ICE custody with plans to appear virtually in court. - ➤ The Virginia Tech Helmet Lab updated its STAR system by raising the thresholds for a five-star rating for bicycle, varsity football, and youth football helmets — fewer helmets meet the top score. The change follows improved test results over the past decade and helps buyers identify helmets that offer strong protection. WSET
- ➤ New River Community College is hosting a free first responder summer camp this week for middle and high school students to gain hands-on skills in firefighting+law enforcement+EMS. The program aims to spark career interest as the nation faces a shortage in emergency workers. WSLS 10
