- ➤ Two and a Half Sisters opened a new location — it now offers an expanded inventory to provide more choices for local customers. WDBJ7
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Appalachian Power filed a petition with the Virginia State Corporation Commission on Wednesday to lower customer bills by securitizing assets and spreading out over $140 million in storm restoration costs and plant asset balances from two power plants — this move may save a home using 1,000 kWh about $11.44 per month. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Jason Miyares today announced nearly $720 million in nationwide settlements with eight drug makers accused of contributing to the opioid crisis. The settlements require changes in marketing practices and may provide Virginia up to $16.4 million to support recovery and treatment services. New River Valley News
- ➤ Blacksburg lowered speed limits on July 10th — a measure by city officials to make roads safer — and the new limits are now in effect. WDBJ7
- ➤ The Veteran Center said they made progress on a new arena — updates were shared on July 10. The center will continue work as planning moves forward. WDBJ7
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers worry that a recent spending bill cutting Medicaid may force over 300 rural hospitals to shut down as key services like OBGYN have already been reduced. The bill does set aside $50 billion for rural hospitals—experts say this fund is needed to prevent more service cuts and a crisis in care. WSLS 10
