- ➤ On Sunday, during an Allegiant flight from Florida to Roanoke-Blacksburg, a passenger named Taj Taylor claimed his laptop was a bomb—prompting the pilot to return the plane to the airport where officers took him into custody and the FBI began an investigation. WSET
- ➤ Appalachian Power warned customers to be alert for utility-related scams during hot weather—scammers may call or visit to demand immediate payment and use threatening tactics, so residents should verify any contact using the number on their bill. WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools began a summer feeding program on Monday, July 7 and will offer free meal kits on July 14, 21, and 28 at Shawsville Middle School, Belview Elementary School, and Belmont Christian Church—each kit supplies food for seven breakfasts and lunches for children. Families can pick up the kits from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Monday in July. WDBJ7
