ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Ten Washington County high school students were injured while touring Virginia Tech after falling through a utility grate—seven were treated on the scene and three were taken to a local hospital for evaluation. WSLS 10
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech is developing a new firefighting foam that does not contain PFAS — chemicals known to pose health and environmental risks. The research is ongoing and aims to provide a safer alternative to traditional foams. WDBJ7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Glenn Youngkin announced yesterday he would award 12 grants worth more than $497,000 to support local food production projects across the state, including three in our region. The funds will build a new permanent marketplace in Pulaski, add awnings to Roanoke City Market and expand meat processing at Mountain View Farm in Pulaski County. WSLS 10

- ➤ Veterinary experts at Virginia Tech say horses in Blacksburg need extra care this summer as they can quickly suffer from dangerous heat stress—symptoms include heavy sweating, trouble breathing, and uncoordinated movements; owners should keep horses in the shade, use fans, and schedule outdoor activities for early mornings or when the sun sets.
