COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has started a voluntary class called Success In Life at the county jail to help inmates learn skills for personal growth and prepare for a fresh start. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials reported a rise in spotted lanternfly sightings on June 20th in our neighborhoods—experts say they are reviewing control measures to limit the invasive pest's spread and protect local plants.  WDBJ7
  • Appalachian Power warned residents on June 20 that water levels near dams have become unpredictable after heavy rains. The company said officials are monitoring the situation closely and will update the public—people should stay alert for further instructions.  WDBJ7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources is reminding boaters to stay sober and wear lifejackets this summer since alcohol and weather can create dangerous conditions—four deaths and 13 injuries have been reported this year, and the agency will enforce boating rules with Operation Dry Water.  WSLS 10
