- ➤ GiveLocalNRV said its 12th annual Giving Day (hosted by the Community Foundation of the New River Valley) will run from noon on June 25 to noon on June 26, and thousands of people along with over 100 organizations are expected to join the fundraiser (with $25,000 in grants and prizes planned). CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech Police said that on June 11th a white male in his 40s drove a newer white passenger van onto West Campus Drive where he tried to solicit a juvenile who ran away when the driver used an intimidating voice while unlocking the doors, and the suspect vehicle has not been located as police continue investigating the attempted abduction near 175 West Campus Drive. - ➤ Madison House of the Arts will soon open a free clothing store that offers donated apparel to local residents— a move to extend its community outreach. WDBJ7
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech’s Executive Master of Natural Resources program now operates from Academic Building One in Alexandria today to strengthen ties between sustainability leadership and tech-driven graduate education. The new location provides collaborative spaces—encouraging interdisciplinary work that supports both environmental and technical studies. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ Aiden, the first facility dog at Virginia Tech School of Design, offers comfort and support to students during advising sessions and studio visits—he was trained by Service Dogs of America and accredited by Assistance Dogs International. - ➤ Officials at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport say there is still confusion about REAL ID a month after the federal deadline went into effect—TSA spokesperson Carter Langston stated that about 94% of passengers have compliant IDs and advised travelers to bring acceptable alternatives before the summer travel season begins.
