- ➤ The Blacksburg Community Band will perform free concerts on June 14th from 5:30–6:30 at Slusser’s Chapel for the Mt Tabor Ruritan June Fish Fry and on July 4th from 6–7 during the Town of Blacksburg 4th of July Celebration — with fireworks scheduled at 9:30 p.m. — to bring live music to the community. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech honored longtime professor and poet Nikki Giovanni today by holding 'Black Love is Black Wealth: A Celebration of the Life and Works of Nikki Giovanni' to recognize her influence after her passing from cancer — speakers and a new exhibit highlighted her lasting impact on creative writing. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Public Schools is offering a free summer meal program through June that will serve breakfast from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and lunch from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday at eight schools + meals must be eaten on site and are available to families, camps, or daycares with children 18 or younger. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Montgomery County board meets today at 7:15 p.m. in the county government center board chambers at 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg to vote on a radio system cost-sharing agreement, a $100,000 plan for fire and rescue equipment, and nearly $1.26M for county schools—they will also review capital improvement projects, school safety, and the county Public Service Authority structure.
