EDUCATION NEWS

  • Assistant Professor Alaa Algargoosh at Virginia Tech is researching sound-responsive spaces that use acoustics, neuroscience, and sustainable materials to boost well-being and focus. Her work involves developing innovative acoustic diffusers and planning a full course on sound design next year—efforts aimed at reshaping building environments to better support health.  Virginia Tech News
  • Virginia Tech hosted its annual Meet the Interior Design Seniors event on May 29 where graduating students displayed their thesis projects and exchanged feedback with professionals from Gensler—who offered career insights—preparing them for future success.  Virginia Tech News
  • A Virginia Tech student is testing cover crops—cereal rye, black oats, hairy vetch, crimson clover, and rape seed—to reduce weed growth and herbicide use while helping farmers boost domestic edamame production; the study aims to give growers sustainable tools to meet rising consumer demand.  Virginia Tech News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Assistant professor Ramtin Haghnazar tested 3D-printed clay facades to create sustainable building designs that use less material and improve ventilation in hot climates. His work, which began on May 29, used local clay in a specialized printer system — and he plans to explore using on-site soil for future projects.  Virginia Tech
