- ➤ Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help to locate 17-year-old Rakel Rayne McGuinnes, who was last seen at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday and is described as a white teen with brown hair and brown eyes — call 540-382-4343 with any leads. WSET
- ➤ Law enforcement agencies including Virginia State Police, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Blacksburg Police and Lynchburg Police warned residents about scam texts impersonating the DMV — the messages claim an outstanding fine with a fake link while officials urge people to verify unexpected texts by contacting the agency directly. - ➤ Virginia Tech researchers developed a new circuit board that is recyclable and can heal when damaged. The board is made using a dynamic polymer and liquid metal — it may ease e-waste disposal by allowing easy recycling of electronics. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ Virginia Tech alum Michael Sherburne is working with a team at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory to design the world’s first two way shape shifting antenna that expands from a flat spiral to a cone using heat and 4D printing— the new design covers two frequency bands that support radar and high speed data communications with potential for mobile networks and space missions. - ➤ Avian veterinarian Jan Hooimeijer demonstrated his Dutch five-step protocol at a recent symposium held at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine—where students and local bird owners learned trust-based techniques to improve bird handling. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ Virginia Tech's Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership has been awarded a $5 million U.S. Army grant to study drone technology and strengthen national defense—Director Tombo Jones said the project will test drone capabilities at indoor and outdoor sites on VT property. WDBJ7
- ➤ Virginia Tech announced that Jill Sible will become the new vice provost for undergraduate academic affairs on June 25—replacing retiring Rachel Holloway. Sible, who has worked at the school since 1998, will work with college deans to improve programs for students. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ Virginia Tech officials plan to add more Federal Work-Study positions to help more students earn money for college expenses and gain real work experience—over 800 students already work in campus jobs in areas such as libraries and dining services.
