ECONOMY NEWS

  • GasBuddy data shows that Virginia’s average gasoline price fell 23.7 cents to $4.15 per gallon on Monday as reported from 4,081 stations. The state's range spans from $3.29 to $5.59 (a difference of $2.30 per gallon).  WSET

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, Jun. 1, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded Virginia Tech research grants totaling $1,404,763 to support Cryptococcus and mental health studies in Blacksburg (with $721,902 for Cryptococcus research and $682,861 for mental health). Congressman Morgan Griffith said the awards strengthen federal support for local research.  New River Valley News

  • APCo filed its 2026 biennial base rate review with the State Corporation Commission today, asking for a $61.4 million increase that uses $8.38 monthly securitization savings to limit the average residential bill rise to about $9.10 while covering costs from storm recovery + infrastructure improvements.  New River Valley News
  • The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors voted to keep term limits for rectors after Gov. Spanberger (who recently removed John Rocovich) did not support eliminating term limits. The decision in Blacksburg preserves established rules for the university’s top leadership.  The Roanoke Times
