- ➤ The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will hold its fish fry on Saturday, June 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Slusser's Chapel Picnic Shelter on 1543 Mount Tabor Rd in Blacksburg (adults $12, children under 12 $6, under 3 free, and carry-outs $12) with the Blacksburg Community Band playing rain or shine. - ➤ Feeding Southwest Virginia will expand its summer meals program by adding new locations in Roanoke City, Roanoke County — and Salem to help combat childhood hunger during school breaks. The nonprofit expects to serve over 250,000 meals to about 5,000 children starting June 10 as part of the USDA’s SUN Meals program and offers extra support through SUN Bucks. WSLS 10

- ➤ A local casting event seeking actors for an upcoming production was announced yesterday in Blacksburg. Details on audition times and location will be released soon. WDBJ7
- ➤ The Moss Arts Center will host the New River Art Juried Biennial featuring works by 44 New River Valley artists—sponsored by the Blacksburg Regional Art Association—with a public reception opening on June 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The free exhibition will be on view until Aug. 23 at the center’s galleries. - ➤ Saskia L. van de Gevel has been named the next dean of the College of Natural Resources and Environment and will start on July 1 — she will join campus on August 1 — to replace Paul Winistorfer who retires after 16 years. Virginia Tech News

- ➤ Virginia Tech professor Andrew McCoy testified on May 14 before a U.S. House subcommittee that emerging construction technology may lower housing costs by speeding construction with tools like 3D printing, robotics, and augmented reality. He emphasized that federal support is needed to remove barriers as Virginia Tech pilots affordable housing units funded by a state grant—efforts aimed at reshaping the construction industry.
