- ➤ Feeding Southwest Virginia announced Monday it will sponsor the Summer Food Service Program to give children free meals at over 75 local sites—using both on-site and grab-and-go options. The nonprofit said it expects to serve at least 9,000 kids with 200,000 meals as food insecurity remains a concern in the region. WSLS 10
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ GasBuddy reported that gasoline prices in Virginia fell by 6.2 cents to an average of $2.95 per gallon on Monday and are now 9.7 cents lower than a month ago; the national average dropped 4.2 cents to $3.08 per gallon—prices remain significantly lower than a year ago. WSET

- ➤ The Town of Blacksburg Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on June 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Council Chamber at 300 South Main St to review rezoning proposals for a planned residential development at 103 Jefferson Street and for a multifamily building with commercial space at 801 North Main Street + residents may present their views + copies of the applications are available online or at the Planning and Building Department. - ➤ May is Alpha-Gal Awareness Month in Virginia and experts say tick season may increase the risk of the syndrome—an allergic reaction to mammal-based products. The CDC notes that a mild winter could mean ticks equal to or more than last year, and advocates in Southwest Virginia urge residents to learn safety tips. WSLS 10
