- ➤ NRV-Radford Project Linus will host its monthly blanket collection day on May 10 at two sites—Sew Biz parking lot at 7327 Peppers Ferry Blvd, Suite A, Fairlawn from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Joann Fabrics parking lot at 145 Shoppers Way, Christiansburg from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.—and will accept handmade quilts, blankets, crochet and knit afghans without wool yarn and single-layer fleece blankets without knots. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Ponnie’s Boutique will host a Fashion Show fundraiser on Monday, June 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Christiansburg Recreation Center; tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at Volunteer Montgomery office. New River Valley News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Lauren Koltcz, a local teacher and parent, had her left fingernail removed in March after Cleveland Clinic diagnosed early-stage melanoma limited to the top skin layer. She first noticed a small brown line on her nail in May last year and, after advice on TikTok—prompting her to seek care, now urges others to check for unusual nail changes. WSLS 10
