CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Metallica will perform at Lane Stadium at Virginia Tech at 6 p.m. on May 7 as part of the band's M72 world tour. All tickets are sold out and stage work is nearly finished — promising a lively night for Blacksburg fans. WSET
- ➤ The local museum is fighting to keep its programs alive amid funding challenges — officials said they are reviewing future plans and seeking community support to boost upcoming events. WDBJ7
- ➤ Students from Rachel Rugh's Intermediate/Advanced Dance Technique class will host free, site-specific dance concerts at the Hahn Horticulture Garden for their final project. The concerts will be held on May 5 at 11:00 a.m. and on May 8 at 6:00 p.m. Virginia Tech News

- ➤ The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors appointed Thomas Feely as the undergraduate representative and Katherine 'Katie' Drinkwater as the graduate/professional representative, with both set to begin their one-year roles on July 1st+ they will serve as liaisons between the board and the student body. - ➤ Virginia Tech’s Myers-Lawson School of Construction launched its new construction safety leadership major in 2024 to train future experts in both physical safety and mental well-being on construction sites. The program offers hands-on training with immersive virtual reality and specialized courses — a step that addresses high injury and suicide rates in the construction industry as automation increases. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On April 24, federal, state, local and university leaders — including Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Virginia Tech President Tim Sands — broke ground in Christiansburg on a project to restore passenger rail to the New River Valley for the first time since 1979. The new station will serve tens of thousands of riders and connect nearby universities and communities to major cities along the Northeast Corridor when service begins in 2027. Virginia Tech News
