COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Struttin’ for PAWS adoption fashion show will be held May 8 at 4 p.m. on the Graduate Life Center lawn, where student models will walk with shelter dogs to help them find homes. Students will restyle adoption vests and animal sciences personnel will train the dogs for improved adoptability—supporting local shelters after the event. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ The Festival of the Dog will be held on May 3 at Blacksburg Municipal Park from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is sponsored by Blacksburg Parks and Recreation and the New River Valley Kennel Club—dog owners must bring leashed pets and a $5 donation to join demonstrations, games, and other activities. - ➤ Architecture student Lizzy McEwen from the class of 2025 joined Special Collections and University Archives and discovered a passion for preserving overlooked histories of women in architecture—her role now helps bring attention to their contributions. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ Thomas Feely is a Virginia Tech senior who has led the Rescue Squad, improved campus construction inspections and guided the Corps of Cadets to help students. This fall, he will serve as the undergraduate representative on the Board of Visitors (continuing his strong commitment to the Hokie community) and mentor others on campus. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ QL Plus and Virginia Tech will host a live student prosthetics design competition tomorrow at Kelly Hall as eight teams compete to create socket and liner solutions that reduce heat and moisture for lower-limb amputees. The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with judges including injured veterans and prosthetists (who will provide critical technical feedback). New River Valley News

- ➤ Delegate Terry Austin faces primary challenger Austen Schwend as early voting begins today for the June 17 primary. - ➤ The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in Virginia areas hit by severe February winter storms and set the tax filing deadline to November 3; the measure covers returns and payments typically due on April 15 along with IRA contributions normally due then.
