EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia Tech students unveiled a design for a multi-generational home meant to keep families close; the project was presented on April 22 at the local campus and aims to guide future family housing innovations.  WDBJ7
  • Gov. Spanberger will speak at Virginia Tech's 2026 commencement ceremony on campus — the event will feature her address to graduating students.  WDBJ7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dr. Emmanuel Frimpong from Virginia Tech explained that New River, one of the continent’s oldest waterways, hosts eight endemic fish species that reproduce by moving rocks (a rare nesting behavior seen in only 40 minnows nationwide), making the river an ecological marvel in the heart of the valley.  WSLS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Abigail Spanberger celebrated new laws protecting workers today; the legislation offers up to 12 weeks paid family leave, sets fair wage standards on public construction projects, and strengthens wage theft recourse — steps designed to bolster Virginia's workforce.  New River Valley News

HEALTH NEWS

  • CHCNRV received a $100,000 donation from a local foundation and is now halfway to its $5 million goal to fund a new, larger facility on Akers Farm Road where it will expand medical, dental, and behavioral services. The center now asks community members to help close the gap.  WSLS 10
