  • Virginia Tech researchers found that a common CEO pay method that uses fixed dollar value grants may lower executive drive for growth because it awards fewer shares when stock prices rise—this could lead companies to invest less in innovation. The study analyzed U.S. firms from 2006 to 2022 and shows that relying on this pay model might affect long-term corporate growth.  Virginia Tech News

  • Virginia Tech’s Curious Conversations podcast featured Eiman Elgewely discussing how virtual reality can help revive lost heritage and open access to historic spaces (she explained projects including a 3D creation of Sheikh Isa’s house in Bahrain and an ancient Egyptian garden that will be at the Cube from May 5-7).  Virginia Tech News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Lions Clubs of Virginia 24-C launched the Listen Up! Preschool Hearing Health Outreach Program to offer free hearing and vision screening for preschools, daycares and homeschool co-ops serving children ages 2 to 5 in many Virginia counties and independent cities—trained volunteers completed hands-on OAE training with the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind. The program plans to expand statewide in 2026 with further details to be announced at the Lions of Virginia State Convention in Williamsburg in May.  New River Valley News
  • Virginia Tech researchers led by urban entomologist Warren Booth discovered a gene mutation in bed bugs that might make them resistant to insecticides like fipronil + dieldrin. The team tested 134 bed bug populations and confirmed the mutation in two groups, a finding that may help pest control companies improve their management strategies.  Virginia Tech News
