- ➤ Gasoline prices in Virginia rose 17.6 cents per gallon last week to average $4.06 on Monday, with the lowest price at $3.59 and highest at $5.09; the increase amounts to 79.7 cents from a month ago and 98.0 cents from last year. WSET
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded Virginia Tech over $1.6 million for research projects, including work on neurological disorders, depression, and pancreatic cancer treatment. Local Congressman Morgan Griffith (R) said the funds support important research in Blacksburg. New River Valley News

- ➤ The Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center announced that hummingbirds are migrating into our area from the Gulf, and they advise locals to prepare feeders for ruby-throated hummingbirds by cleaning them every 3–5 days + using the proper sugar-water mix. WDBJ7

- ➤ Professor Julia Gohlke leads a five-year study on Hurricane Helene’s flooding effects on long-term health in central Appalachia, supported by an initial NIH grant of $791,037 + potential for additional funding. The team will start interviews to help improve disaster response. Cardinal News
