COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mission 10 of the Central and Southwest Virginia Honor Flight is on the ground in Washington D.C. — it carries dozens of veterans including two from World War II; the flight left the National D-day Memorial in Bedford this morning and will return on Sunday.  WSLS 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • An alumna donated a rare collection of Civil War letters to Special Collections and University Archives that include personal exchanges by General Gabriel Wharton and his wife Anne 'Nannie' Radford Wharton, shedding light on their lives during the war.  Virginia Tech News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Governor Glenn Youngkin announced on Thursday that Patton Logistics Group will invest $10 million to build a new 100,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution facility in Pulaski County. The planned project will add 25 new jobs to the New River Valley and marks the company’s second expansion in the county in four years.  WSLS 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia Tech announced its cultural centers will remain open after a board vote ended its DEI office—while the university reviews plans for living-learning communities to make sure all students have options. President Tim Sands told student and faculty representatives that some programs will be repositioned to meet new federal rules and progress will be reported by the end of April.  Cardinal News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The first Ruby-throated hummingbirds have been seen in our area in Roanoke, Danville and Huddleston, arriving earlier than usual this spring. The Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center offered tips on setting up proper feeders to help residents support the birds' migration.  WSLS 10
