- ➤ On March 27, The Big Plant brought thousands together to plant trees on Virginia Tech land and along Stroubles Creek to restore the riparian ecosystem — local groups such as the New River Conservancy, Environmental Coalition at Virginia Tech, and the Stroubles Creek Coalition joined forces with Virginia Tech and state agencies to lead the event. - ➤ Logo Hub, a local design company, partnered with the Christiansburg Fire Department to raise over $6,000 from T-shirt sales to support the children of Jeremy Compton—a volunteer firefighter who died after a battle with liver cancer. The funds have been placed in trust accounts to help cover his young children's needs. WDBJ7

- ➤ Student Affairs offers students on-campus work and internship opportunities to gain real job skills in health, sports, dining, and other areas while they complete their studies—17 Campus internEXP internships are available this spring, with summer applications open through April 2 and fall roles coming soon. - ➤ The search committee for the College of Natural Resources and Environment has set open forum sessions for the three finalist candidates on March 31, April 2, and April 7 at The Inn at Virginia Tech or via Zoom—campus members can ask questions and share feedback to help select the new dean. The new dean will replace Paul Winistorfer, who announced his retirement effective this fall after 16 years of service. Virginia Tech News

- ➤ Virginia Tech research found that digital devices are harming the Appalachian Trail – social media posts have led to overcrowding, erosion, and misinformation among hikers. - ➤ Attorney General Jason Miyares urged Virginian consumers to check if they qualify for compensation for generic drug purchases as Virginia joins other states in seeking a $39.1 million settlement with Apotex for alleged price-fixing and reduced competition. He said any Virginian who bought a generic medication between May 2009 and December 2019 should call the toll-free number to determine their eligibility—ensuring affected consumers may recover funds for overcharges. - ➤ Virginia Tech graduate student Chrishma Perera conducted research in Peru’s Satipo region—where heavy rains and landslide warnings are common—to study how the Asháninka people use traditional knowledge for health.
