  • NRV Leading Lights is accepting volunteer award nominations for the 2025-2026 cycle from across the New River Valley. Nominations must be submitted online by April 10 and winners will be recognized at a banquet on April 30.  New River Valley News
  • The annual Domestic Violence Awareness Conference returns in Blacksburg, offering local community members a forum to learn about prevention and support services. Organizers will share further details soon.  WDBJ7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Celtic Festival and Highland Games will soon showcase traditional games, music and crafts in Blacksburg — a celebration of Celtic heritage for the community.  WDBJ7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delivery drivers in Blacksburg felt the pinch from rising gas prices on March 25 as one DoorDash driver said high fuel costs reduced her earnings to the point that taking orders was no longer worthwhile — many drivers now accept fewer orders, as tips rarely cover fuel expenses.  WSET

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Local colleges and hospitals have partnered to offer scholarships for students entering healthcare careers. The program, announced Mar. 25, is aimed at addressing a growing staffing need in our community—early applications are encouraged.  WDBJ7
  • Literacy NRV is hosting its annual Scrabble Tournament Fundraiser on April 9 at the Omni Place Event Center; doors open at 5:30 p.m. and play starts at 6:15 p.m. Registration costs $120 per team & $45 per individual, with all proceeds supporting adult literacy programs.  New River Valley News
