EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia Tech Board of Visitors approved a 2.9 percent tuition increase for undergraduates for the 2025-26 academic year; in-state tuition and fees will rise $576 to $16,526 annually while out-of-state rates will rise $1,200 to $38,977 annually (including a $186 fee increase). The board urged university leaders to find savings in the budget to help counter any state budget limits.  Virginia Tech News
  • The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors voted Tuesday to cancel plans for a student life village that would have added over 1,700 beds on campus. The board will instead renovate Slusher Hall to offer about 600 beds—despite concerns from Blacksburg officials about reduced housing options.  WSLS 10
  • Virginia Tech's Board of Visitors approved a resolution on the Presidential Executive Order on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion after reviewing it in a committee meeting on March 24. University leaders said the vote shows the school stands for free speech and treats everyone fairly.  Virginia Tech News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Blacksburg Public Works is cleaning up winter storm brush in the Northwest and Southwest parts of town over the next 2.5 weeks. Since February, crews collected 531.52 tons from the Southeast and Northeast and expect over 1000 tons by cleanup’s end — five times more than usual, and on April 7 the town will begin its Spring Cleanup with residents in the Northwest asked to put debris at the curb by 7:30 a.m.  New River Valley News
