CULTURE NEWS

  • The Town of Blacksburg Public Arts Committee is seeking design submissions from local and regional artists for traffic signal cabinets to be installed at selected intersections starting summer — proposals must be emailed by March 31 to be reviewed by the selection committee.  New River Valley News
  • The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts and the Blacksburg Master Chorale will perform Mozart's Requiem on March 30 at 4 p.m. at the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre in Moss Arts Center on Alumni Mall; the event will feature more than 260 performers for its first staging at the venue (continuing a creative partnership between Professors Mathias Elmer and Dwight Bigler).  Virginia Tech News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Virginia Tech's Moss Arts Center hosted a visual arts residency where international artist Yanira Collado worked with over 100 Architecture, Arts and Design students on site-specific projects. The program is funded by local endowments — a partnership with supporters like Clem and Georgia Carter and Carole and CY Davis— that gives students a direct look at the creative process.  Virginia Tech News
  • Virginia Tech will hold the 2025 Day of Remembrance to honor students and faculty who died on April 16, 2007. The events include a 3.2 mile run starting April 12 at 9 a.m. in front of War Memorial Hall and a candle lighting ceremony on April 16—with a wreath laying and cadet watch as part of the tribute.  Virginia Tech News
  • Virginia Tech will hold its University Commencement at Lane Stadium on May 16 at 8:30 a.m. Innovator Regina Dugan, a two-time Hokie alumna known for her work in science and technology, will deliver the address to the graduating class.  Virginia Tech News
  • The University Libraries branch opened in Academic Building One on January 21, housed in an 11-story building that offers classrooms, labs and collaborative spaces. It served as a gateway to the main library in Blacksburg+ and provided tech resources like iPads and MacBooks+ for students.  Virginia Tech News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Blacksburg Transit will hold a ribbon cutting today at 9:45 a.m. for its new LEED Gold-certified Transit Center on the Virginia Tech campus near the Perry Street parking garage; the center features a passenger waiting area, Hokie Bike Hub, conference rooms and office spaces and has 17 sheltered bus bays that have served since August 2024. The project ($26 million, funded by federal, state and local sources) is open to the public.  New River Valley News
