- ➤ When Maybelline, a 6-month-old mixed breed puppy, arrived on a Saturday in February with parvo at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the team began five days of intensive treatment using fluid therapy and feeding tubes—efforts supported by the Compassionate Care Fund. The shelter and veterinary team worked together—hoping she will fully recover and soon find a forever home. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ Retired professor Cecil McBride, 92, hosted his Men’s Dinner on Saturday in Blacksburg where guests ate wild game meat such as bear, moose, venison and duck all hunted by friends. Long-time diners shared stories of McBride’s years hunting and flying airplanes—keeping a cherished local tradition alive. The Roanoke Times

- ➤ Virginia Tech researchers published a blueprint that fuses wireless technology with new AI that thinks like a person. The paper shows that while parts of the system can be built soon, a complete upgrade may take 10 to 15 years—efforts aimed at making future networks smarter. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ Virginia Tech's Center for Communicating Science launched the Black Excellence in STEM Oral History Project to record the stories of Black scientists and show their challenges and successes in research. Led by Patty Raun—who saw the impact of past tragedies on her students—and Carrie Kroehler with graduate students, the project currently holds 17 interviews and will soon share more voices through print, animation, and podcast episodes. - ➤ Retired U.S. Army Col. Craig J. Alia has been named vice commandant for the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech and will immediately begin serving as the principal advisor to the commandant—overseeing day-to-day leadership of the commandant’s staff. He will continue as deputy commandant while a search for his successor takes place. Virginia Tech News
