- ➤ YMCA at Virginia Tech and local partners will reopen the Cinderella and Prince Charming Boutique for students to shop for free or low-cost formal wear on March 27 (3:00–6:00 p.m.) and March 28 (10:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.) at The Y Center, Emily Stewart Event Room. New River Valley News
- ➤ A section of the Huckleberry Trail reopened to walkers, runners and bikers on Mar. 12 after winter construction replaced three aging bridges near Merrimac Road — extending the trail from the Uptown Christiansburg/Mall entrance from 1 mile to about 1.7 miles and offering nearby restroom access. - ➤ Voting for the Restaurant Rumble contest closed on Tuesday (Mar. 17) when local fans selected their top restaurants, and the competition will continue with further rounds in Blacksburg. WDBJ7

ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A Virginia Tech study finds that the Creeper Trail brings over $61 million in annual economic impact and supports 582 jobs + nearly 350,000 trips were recorded in 2023 across four counties. The findings will guide future surveys and repair work once the hurricane-damaged trail is rebuilt. Cardinal News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech received a $2.5 million ARPA-E award on March 17 to design a power electronics converter under the DC-GRIDS program — a key part of a $35 million campaign to triple U.S. transmission capacity. Congressman Morgan Griffith supported the project, one of 12 chosen to boost energy security. New River Valley News
- ➤ Literacy NRV is accepting new applications for free literacy classes and tutoring across the New River Valley. A volunteer training took place on March 16 and another is set for April 8 to help new volunteers teach more flexibly + with ease. News Messenger
- ➤ The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors will discuss tuition and fees for the 2026-27 academic year on Tuesday, April 14, with a virtual public comment session on Thursday, April 2. Speakers have up to three minutes to speak and must submit written comments by April 6. WSLS 10

- ➤ Approximately 150 runners participated in the Shamrock 4-Miler in Blacksburg on Saturday, Mar. 14, as Samuel Haynes won the race (23:50.85) and Lauren Childs was the top female finisher (28:55.85). News Messenger
