CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Virginia Tech’s Cheerleading Uniform Collection is on display in a climate-controlled room at Newman Library as it preserves cheerleading styles from 1956 to 2012 (disco-era hot pants and modern fabrics show changing trends). University Archivist Amelia Verkerk and student archivist Ella Winterling are cataloging the uniforms to keep this part of our history accessible for study. Virginia Tech News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices dropped across the country to $3.07 a gallon — a 9 cent decline from last month as travelers get ready for spring break. In Virginia, regular gas cost $2.89 on average, with prices as low as $2.71 in Henry County and as high as $2.98 in Rockbridge County while Star City sees prices from $2.61 to $2.99. WSLS 10

- ➤ Yale law professor Bruce Ackerman will deliver the 2025 PPE Distinguished Lecture titled 'Rebuilding Our Shattered Democracy: A Race Against Time' at Virginia Tech on March 26 at 5 p.m. (in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre at Moss Arts Center) and a reception will follow the free event. - ➤ Tombo Jones joined Virginia Tech’s 'Curious Conversations' podcast to explain FAA rules for drone operations and the challenges of detecting drones—he said Virginia Tech is developing a Blacksburg facility to advance counter-UAS systems and support national security. Virginia Tech News
- ➤ New River Community Action is accepting applications for the 2025 George Ducker Scholarship Award in memory of Reverend George L. Ducker, a local community leader. All online nominations must be received (deadline April 19th at 5:00 p.m.) to qualify. New River Valley News

- ➤ Virginia Tech researchers found that witnessing trauma changes the brain in a different way than experiencing it firsthand. They studied three key brain regions—amygdala, anterior cingulate cortex, and retrosplenial cortex—and the findings may lead to new treatments for PTSD. Virginia Tech News
