  • Appalachian Power crews are working to restore electricity after severe thunderstorms disrupted service in Blacksburg today — outages remain limited, and officials advise residents to keep at least 30 feet from downed lines for safety.  WSLS 10

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in our area have risen to $3.51 per gallon, up twenty cents from last week and 68 cents more than a month ago — experts say that disruptions in global oil supply, linked to tensions in Iran, are driving the increase. Consumers may notice further changes in the coming days.  WSET

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Women and Girls Equity Group will host a writing workshop to help raise funds for scholarships – the event offers practical writing instruction and supports local educational opportunities.  WDBJ7

  • VT Men’s Hoops will decline the NIT invitation after receiving notice on March 16, choosing instead to focus on upcoming tournaments. Officials said more details on their plans will be provided soon.  WDBJ7
