COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry now feeds nearly 400 families each month as food prices rise and more families need help. The pantry is hosting a canned food drive (March 16 to March 30) to restock its shelves and continue serving the community.  WSLS 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Virginia Tech's Philharmonic Orchestra and Choirs will join with the Blacksburg Master Chorale to perform Mozart's Requiem on March 30, 2025 at 4 p.m. at Moss Arts Center — the piece was left unfinished by Mozart, making it a unique part of his legacy.  Virginia Tech News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • In May, Virginia Tech Honors College will show student and teacher design projects at Biennale Architettura 2025, a six-month exhibition. The shows—unEarthed and Second Nature/PolliNATION—highlight sustainable ideas and cross-disciplinary work on a global stage.  Virginia Tech News
  • Colombian scholar Tania Pérez-Bustos visits Virginia Tech from March 19 to 21 to lead a series of events on how textiles inform memory and political struggle in Colombian communities (her sessions include a hands-on workshop at the Newman Library and discussions via Zoom).  Virginia Tech News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County Board of Supervisors approved buying a building at 305 Roanoke St in Christiansburg on Feb. 24, 2025 to house fire and EMS administrative staff. The county acquired the $925,000 property with closing on Feb. 27 and design work starting soon to begin renovations expected to take 12 to 18 months & provide room for training and equipment storage.  News Messenger

  • The Junior League is preparing a blood drive to boost local blood supplies — details on the date and location will be announced soon.  WDBJ7

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local officials announced that Ron Sanchez will not be retained for his position and did not provide further details about the decision (the agency is reviewing next steps), which leaves his future role uncertain. Further information is expected as officials work to fill the vacancy.  WDBJ7
