  • WDBJ7 airs Voices of Virginia today — a Black History Month special that highlights personal stories and local histories from community members. The program celebrates the rich cultural heritage within our region.  WDBJ7
  • Community leaders and educators gathered yesterday to honor civil rights pioneer Barbara Johns, who led a student walkout that changed local education, as participants reflected on her lasting legacy.  WDBJ7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the 2026 Virginia Veterinary Conference held Feb. 19–21 at The Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center, five awards honored Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine’s faculty, staff, and alumni, including Terry Swecker (Paul F. Landis Veterinarian of the Year Award recipient) who credited his mentors with shaping his career.  Virginia Tech News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local young voters (viewed as future leaders) have expressed differing opinions on rising costs after recent discussions, and Governor Spanberger stressed that addressing affordability remains key for families in the community.  WSLS 10
  • Christiansburg Police Department held a memorial for its K9 Rango, a loyal partner to Officer Adam Abdelaziz, and thanked Heavenly Pets of Wytheville for free crematory services. The tribute highlighted the unique bond between the K9 and the department.  WSET
