EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Feb. 3, 17 student representatives traveled from Tech to Richmond to speak with legislators about funding for the university. They shared their experiences and pushed for a stronger budget that meets student needs (a key priority for the Undergraduate Student Senate). Collegiate Times
- ➤ The application process for 2026-2027 Undergraduate Student Senate positions is open at Virginia Tech for students seeking leadership roles to shape university policy. Applicants must apply by March 1 (11:59 p.m.) and the election results will be announced on March 31. Collegiate Times
- ➤ United Mission for Relief and Development started a Virginia Tech chapter in spring 2026 to host events and fundraise for global aid. The chapter is open to all students who want to join in community service. Collegiate Times
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Town of Blacksburg now holds the Stonecutters Hollow property (239 acres) after a successful transfer by the New River Land Trust for permanent conservation and public access. The park is part of Brush Mountain Park, offering over 6 miles of multi-use trails. Cardinal News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Virginia’s Senate passed legislation on Feb. 16 to raise the minimum wage in three steps; workers saw the rate go to $12.77 on Jan. 1, with increases to $13.75 next year and $15.00 in 2028 (a key part of Gov. Spanberger’s Affordable Virginia Agenda). Collegiate Times
